Sleep Is Vital To Your Health and Happiness

Getting enough sleep could be a problem that many of us experience.

To some, they just couldn't be bothered. They feel that a good night's sleep just comes very natural to them – no effort, no problem, no concern at all.

There is no doubt that numerous people struggle with the problem of lack of sleep and now it is becoming a health problem but also, the cause of many road accidents especially.

I was reading Dr. Timothy Sharp's book The Good Sleep Guide "aimed at not only those who suffer from a lack of sleep, but also people who want to sleep better, without resorting to pills."

Dr. Sharp engages in individual consultation and group programs for more than a decade where he has been helping people with psychological and medical problems.

In Dr. Sharp's observation, he says that many of us are so tired and points the finger largely at "lifestyle" as the factor for tiredness. He comments that "work is changing and people are working longer hours, staying more time at the office and not having enough exercise." On the other hand, he adds that the good news is - people are aware of the problem and what can be done about it.

Dr Sharp puts emphasis on the "role of diet and exercise, the management of time and stress and looks at relaxation strategies as part of the overall approach to establishing a good sleep routine."

His book mentions tips for shiftworkers, how to deal with traveller's jetlag and also the arrival of a baby.

So those who suffer tossing themselves in bed at night, Dr. Sharp's book offers some 10 STEPS TO GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP: One – Understand the need for sleep; Two – Make sleep a priority; Three – Watch your diet; Four - Exercise and be active; Five - Learn to relax; Six - Sort out your sleep routine; Seven - Organise your time; Eight - Develop healthy thinking and control worry; Nine - Deal with other problems; Ten - Persevere and practice.

Work towards achieving good sleep. It is vital to your health and to your personal happiness.

Exercise frequently. That's one secret to your health and personal happiness.
